The Texas Heartbeat Act

I do not support the Texas Heartbeat Act. As a women and a mother this law is unfair in every way possible. First off “Section 171.205, a physician may not knowingly perform or induce an abortion on a pregnant woman unless the physician has determined, in accordance with this section, whether the woman’s unborn child has a detectable fetal heartbeat.” (Section 171.203(b))”

This so called early time limit for access to abortion is unacceptable, a mere 6 weeks of pregnancy goes unnoticed majority of the time. “many women may not be aware of their pregnancy at this stage” women with different medical conditions such as PCOS who have irregular periods like myself can be unaware if we are pregnant or not therefore this law clearly doesn’t take into consideration the many other aspects of women’s health.

“The law requires physicians and doctors to determine the presence of a fetal heartbeat. This introduces the potential for medical misjudgment or errors, and physicians may feel pressured to err on the side of caution, limiting access to abortion.”

Secondly “This section does not affect… the provisions of this chapter that restrict or regulate an abortion by a particular method or during a particular stage of pregnancy; or any other provision of state law that regulates or prohibits abortion.” (Section 171.204(c)) again as stated above

“The law does not provide exceptions for cases of rape or incest, raising concerns about the well-being of women who become pregnant under such circumstances” This law doesn’t take into consideration the victims who have already suffered so much as it is but now are and will be forced to complete this pregnancy full term regardless of the emotional, mental, physical trauma they have already been through and will continue to go through and nor does this law consider the age of the victims.

This law itself is an infringement on reproductive rights! This infringes on a woman’s constitutional right to choose by imposing restrictions on access to abortion. Reproductive rights should be protected, and the law places an undue burden on women seeking abortion. Instead of going forward in time we have gone several decades back in history.
