Have you ever been involved in union organizing, collective bargaining, or worked in a union shop? If so, share your experience. If not, locate a scholarly journal article describing collective bargaining and how it works within an organization.

Have you ever worked in a healthcare facility that had Magnet accreditation or had experience with shared governance? If so, share your experience. If not, locate a scholarly journal article that describes shared governance and explain how it could be implemented in your current facility.

Read the book Frankenstein and choose 3 characters and compare their understanding of kinship. For them, is kinship a transactional relationship or one of reciprocity? Do they extend kinship readily to others, or are they rigid, exclusive?

Do they change their view of kinship over the course of the book? ? Is any of them able to feel or acknowledge other-than-human beings as kin?

As you compare the characters, ask what in their background, as the novel depicts them, might be the reasons
for their similarities and differences. Is their attitude an effect of privilege – class, gender, other?

Have they learned from adverse experiences – and has that experience opened them up or shut them down to others? Remember that secondary characters contribute insights into themes, so you need not rely exclusively on main characters.

To succeed in this assignment, do the following:
Have a clearly articulated point of view on the issue you have chosen, whether you choose the essay or the letter.
Just summarizing the text is not enough.
Carefully choose evidence from the text – don’t use quotes to summarize the plot, but rather use them to illustrate a
particular idea.
Explain the importance of details in the quotes you have provided; don’t assume it’s obvious why you’ve included the
quote.
Have a structure for your paper: whether you’re doing the letter or the comparison, break your paper into
paragraphs where you focus on a particular aspect of your issue. Don’t just move on to the thing that happens next
in the novel.
Use English for Academic Purposes: that is, check your grammar and syntax

An annotated bibliography is a document that lists citations of sources related to your research, along with an assessment of the sources. You can think of it as a knowledge base, a reference tool for keeping track of sources during the research process.

For your annotated bibliography, find at least two peer-reviewed, scholarly sources (a.k.a. GALILEO sources) related to your research topic. For each entry, give the proper MLA citation (the sort you do for works cited page). Then, underneath each citation, provide a two-paragraph write-up of 100-150 words. Here is the structure each assessment should have:

Paragraph 1 should give a summary of the source (the thesis, the main points, etc.).

Paragraph 2 should evaluate the source — what are its strengths and weaknesses? Are there any gaps in the research? Could more be said on the topic? Etc. You can also reflect on how the source might be useful to your research essay.

Write a nursing philosophy paper that clearly reflects your personal philosophy of nursing. The paper should include the identification and examination of your own definition of nursing’s meta-paradigms: nursing, person, health, and environment.

Identify and discuss one other concept that you believe should be a part of nursing’s meta-paradigm (e.g. social justice, caring, technology, complexity, spirituality, culture, interdisciplinary practice, sustainability of resources, efficiency, safety… you may use another concept if it better complements your philosophical perspective) .

Discuss how your definition of the meta-paradigm concepts influences how you understand and accomplish your work as a nurse. Integrate a minimum of three examples from your work into your paper that captures the essence of your philosophy.

Parts of this paper can be written in the ‘first person since it is your personal philosophy of nursing. However, when you are defining and discussing the meta-paradigms, avoid using the first person. (See the Philosophy of Nursing in the RN to BSN Handbook for an example of how to write these sections in a more academic tone or third-person.)
