Running a Support group

You are running a support group with your Flip Grid partner(s) for spouses who have lost partners due to suicide. Some of recent and others, many years ago.

As a group, discuss and share on FlipGrid a ‘normalizing question/ statement’ for those who may feel as if “they should have gotten over it by now” or “I can’t believe that I am not functioning, even at work or with my kids…I should be able to just put my head down and be there to support the family!”.

Come up with one or two statements in response to these made by the client.

You are the DNP-prepared nurse responsible for overseeing staffing for the telehealth services provided at your practice.

To determine the number of nurses that you might need for these services, you must determine how many patients might be interested in using the telehealth services versus the traditional clinical practice setting.

For a week you ask each patient visiting the practice his or her interest in setting up a visit via telehealth services. At the conclusion of the week, you use this data and reasoning ES to develop a statistic of the population interested in telehealth services.

You have successfully used inferential statistics to help guide your decision-making for your practice.

The scenario outlined provides a random sampling and assumptions to develop a conclusion, With assumptions, and in this case, a small random sampling, this scenario is ripe with the possibility of error.

However, how might inferential statistics be used in a valid and credible way? NT The design of a study determines the validity of the results, and if done following appropriate techniques, inferential statistics can determine clear differences and help researchers to form conclusions.

In your Discussion, you will focus on two forms of identifying differences in groups: t-tests and analysis of variance (ANOVA).

For this Discussion, review the Learning Resources and reflect on a healthcare issue of interest to find a research article in which to analyze the use of inferential statistical analysis.

Reflect on how the study was comprised, the validity of the findings, and whether or not it increased the study’s application to EBP To Prepare: .

Consider some of the important issues in healthcare delivery or nursing practice today.

Bring to mind the topics to which you have been exposed through previous courses in your program of study, as well as any news items that have caught your attention recently, Select one topic to focus on for this Discussion.

Review journal, newspaper, and/or internet articles that may provide credible information on your selected topic.

Then, select one research article to focus on for this Discussion that used inferential statistical analysis (either a t-test or ANOVA) to study the topic.

. With information from the Learning Resources in mind, evaluate the purpose and value of the research study discussed in your selected article and consider the following questions:

o Who comprised the sample In this study? o What were the sources of data?

o What inferential statistic was used to analyze the data collected (t-test or ANOVA)? o What were the findings? .

Ask yourself: How did using an inferential statistic bring value to the research study?

Did it increase the study’s application to evidence-based practice?

Environment guided and influenced by Theorist

A nurse in a clinical practice environment guided and influenced by theorist Lydia Hall would expect which of the following?

A: A rehabilitation center where professional nursing was the chief therapy, and who were thought to be the best prepared to promote health and prevent new illness.

B: A rehabilitation center where professional nursing carried out specific doctors orders tailored for each unique patients’ needs.

C: A rehabilitation center where professional nursing services were carried out in the early morning hours, encouraging family visits during the afternoon to foster long-term patient care.

D: A psychiatric center where medical intervention was the chief therapy for the in-patient setting, but exclusive nursing care was implemented for all long term out-patient care.

Underlying Healthcare problems

A nursing practice problem is a diagnosis, mainly dealing with how patients react or respond to underlying healthcare problems (NANDA International, n.d). These problems are usually identified when nurses are conducting their assessments concerning conditions patients are suffering from.

A nursing problem is mainly concerned with patient needs, from when they seek medical attention to when they leave the hospital. Here, the nurse collects data about the patient, like their health history and the objective data.

An example of such a problem is when a patient visits a hospital, and they are diagnosed with cancer.

It will be necessary to conduct a physical examination on them to determine the pathophysiology of the disease.

On the other hand, a medical practice problem deals with research on the actual disease. A medical problem will often define the disease process (Nanda International, n.d).

Issues like the disease’s epidemiology and how it affects the body can be researched in this area. For example, when a patient visits the hospital, they may be diagnosed with diabetes.

Diabetes is the medical problem, whereas showing signs of fatigue, sweating, or increased temperatures shows the patient’s response to the condition, hence a nursing practice problem.

A PICOT question must always be based on the nursing practice problem because it focuses on the patient (Duke University, 2020).

An excellent clinical problem should always look into the patient’s needs, as patient needs are at the core of the healthcare sector.

This will make the research process much easier and more objective.

Using the PICOT approach in defining medical problems gives room for a well-organized clinical question, with practical strategies to manipulate through the item.
