Ergogenic aids on physical fitness

  1. Discuss ergogenic aids and how they claim to improve athletic performance and physical fitness. Explain the relationship between fluid intake and fitness.
  2. Describe the five basic components of physical fitness and roles of carbohydrate, protein, and fat during physical activities.
  3. What role do vitamins and minerals play during physical fitness? What two minerals are a concern for highly active individuals?

Treating bacteria and viruses

Discuss why viruses are more difficult to treat than bacteria and how they affect our body.

  • Identify properties of viruses, characteristics, viral nucleic acids and life cycle of animal viruses. (You can help yourself to answer this question reading the PowerPoint in the Modules here in Canvas Chapter 5 Viral structures and multiplication, pages 8-10, 14, 18, 20, 21, 26, 27, 41-44.)
  • Pick one virus ( HIV, COVID-19, Influenza, Herpes, Smallpox, Rotavirus or any other you may have heard) and research about that virus: characteristics, how does it enter human body, and how does it affect the human body and if it is any prevention and treatment for it.

Axillary lymph nodes

1.Discuss the reasons why the axillary lymph nodes are removed and it was recommended that a patient continue with chemotherapy and radiation. (See Spread of Malignant Tumors.)
2. Discuss the different treatments that a tumor patient is going through, including advantages and disadvantages of each type and overall prognosis. (See Treatment.)

Malignant and benign tumor

A routine mammogram showed a large mass in the right breast of Mrs. H, age 42 years. A biopsy confirmed the presence of a malignant tumor. Mrs. H was concerned because her mother and
an aunt had had breast cancer. No metastases were detected at this time. A mastectomy was performed, and a number of axillary and mediastinal lymph nodes were removed. Pathologic
examination showed that several nodes from each area contained malignant cells. Given that this case was considered to be stage III, it was recommended that Mrs. H have chemotherapy
and radiation treatment following surgery and later have her ovaries removed to reduce her estrogen levels.

1. Discuss the differences between a malignant and benign tumor and how they may be used in diagnosing the cancer. (See Characteristics of Malignant and Benign Tumors.)
2. Discuss what other signs and symptoms Mrs. H may expect to experience if the tumor returns. (See Pathophysiology, Local Effects of Malignant Tumors, Systemic Effects of alignant Tumors.)
3. Other than the biopsy used in this case, discuss what other diagnostic tests could have been used to diagnose the cancer. (See Diagnostic Tests.)

Cultural competence in nursing

Define the term cultural competence, thus discuss what characteristics a nurse should demonstrate to be considered culturally competent. Discuss one transcultural theory that supports your answer.

Loss of the phosphatase domain of the bifunctional enzyme that controls the level of fructose 2,6-bisphosphate
