Development of critical care units

Development of critical care units.

I think the area of nursing that has changed in the 20th century with the largest impact on me is the development of critical care units.  In 1954 a small community hospital in New Jersey claimed to have the first ICU in the United States. It is hard for me to believe that care is just celebrating its 60th birthday!  I believe the impact of the pandemic and how hard that hit our patient population made nursing a very sobering calling for me and I can’t imagine caring for these extremely ill patients without the skilled care of nurses and physicians who specialize in intensive care. please add more information on the development of units. Thanks
