Meaning of Life

Meaning of Life

I think of it often. Am I on the right path? Am I creating a meaningful life? Is my life supposed to be about the choices I make or where the choices lead me to end up? These questions are why I signed up for this class. Will it give me the answer? Doubtful, but it has taught me that nobody has the answer.

I understand you are referring to being in this particular class to learn more about a philosophical question like the meaning of life, Marjorie, but does it also apply on a larger scale? Isn’t everyone here, not just in this class, but at Walden, because they see it as a stop along the way in pursuing the meaning of their lives? Didn’t everyone think hard and long before applying and enrolling to Walden about what benefits a degree would afford in finding a job, continuing a career, getting a promotion? Aren’t these all elements in figuring out and pursuing the meanings of lives?

I found this phrase from Acrobatiq Courseware (2017) very relevant to my thoughts. “We can see the idea of non-action in the call to ‘let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.’ In other words, we should not try to use our actions to impose the path we think reality should take.

Interesting observation. So the meaning of life should not be so much about pursuing our individual goals and desires, but getting in tune with the world around us? Instead of trying to shape the world to our needs and desires, we should learn how to adapt to our surroundings, both physical and personal? Does this imply that we are all part of a greater reality and we should try to figure out how the meaning of our own lives interact with, add to or work in conjunction with the lives of others?

Evidence-Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim

Assignment: Evidence-Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim

Healthcare organizations continually seek to optimize healthcare performance. For years, this approach was a three-pronged one known as the Triple Aim, with efforts focused on improved population health, enhanced patient experience, and lower healthcare costs.

More recently, this approach has evolved to a Quadruple Aim by including a focus on improving the work life of healthcare providers. Each of these measures are impacted by decisions made at the organizational level, and organizations have increasingly turned to EBP to inform and justify these decisions.

To Prepare:

  • Read the articles by Sikka, Morath, & Leape (2015); Crabtree, Brennan, Davis, & Coyle (2016); and Kim et al. (2016) provided in the Resources.
  • Reflect on how EBP might impact (or not impact) the Quadruple Aim in healthcare.
  • Consider the impact that EBP may have on factors impacting these quadruple aim elements, such as preventable medical errors or healthcare delivery.

To Complete:

Write a brief analysis (no longer than 2 pages) of the connection between EBP and the Quadruple Aim.

Your analysis should address how EBP might (or might not) help reach the Quadruple Aim, including each of the four measures of:

  • Patient experience
  • Population health
  • Costs
  • Work life of healthcare providers
