The concept of cultural humility

In your experience, how have changes in healthcare affected nurses’ ability to provide person-centered, holistic care? As you think ahead to your future practice as a nursing practitioner, which of the concepts covered this week resonates most with you? Why? How do you anticipate that the concept of cultural humility will affect your practice? Explain.

Monitoring trend data

Death rates are important for monitoring trend data within the population and within healthcare organizations (HCOs). Do you think that monitoring death rates is important in today’s society with all of the changes in medicine and medical care? Why, or why not?

Coding and billing telehealth

The COVID-19 virus has transformed the healthcare industry utilizing telehealth more than ever before. Due to the increasing demand for telehealth, you have been tasked with creating a tip sheet for the providers in your clinic. The purpose of this tip sheet is to give the providers the critical information they need for coding and billing telehealth visits without overwhelming them or impacting patient care.

Specifically, on your tip sheet, you should:

  • Provide an explanation of telehealth and its associated applications.
  • Review privacy requirements when conducting telehealth sessions. Provide 2 requirements and give a brief detail of each.
  • Provide 3 examples of documentation needed for a telehealth visit.

Important symptom of underlying hepatic disease

Fatigue is often an important symptom of underlying hepatic disease. Intense pruritus and other dermatologic changes in the presence of elevated bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase suggest cholestasis. Transaminase elevations generally signify hepatocellular inflammation or necrosis. Hepatomegaly and elevated alkaline phosphatase may be the only signs of infiltrative disease and mass lesions. Bilirubin exceeding 10mg/dL is more often associated with carcinoma than with cholecystitis or stones.

Discuss the problem of hospital culture

Examine the legal implications related to the healthcare organization’s compliance, including a review of existing case law that may be applicable to this particular case scenario. Review any legal requirements associated with the case such as documentation and reporting requirements. Analyze the ethical implications associated with the case. Be sure not to confuse ethical and legal implications. Discuss the problem of hospital culture if inappropriate behavior towards the patients is ignored or tolerated. Use the Joint Commission Framework for Conducting a Root Cause Analysis template to prepare a root cause analysis of an adverse event in the State v. Houle case. Use the organization plan of action/risk reduction strategies in the template (p.10) to prepare an action plan for managing the risk associated with this patient abuse event. As a result of assessing the situation and researching best practices, develop a comprehensive recommendation for the key decision makers of this healthcare organization addressing the business problems, opportunities, and a possible course of action.

The importance of clinical judgment and decision-making

Critically discuss the importance of clinical judgment and decision-making to nurses in clinical practice when caring for deteriorating patients. The assignment should be supported with reference to your clinical practice to illustrate your experiences of clinical judgment and decision-making (CJDM) and supported by relevant literature.

Reproductive infection

You all probably know someone who has had a reproductive infection or illness, including reproductive cancer. Tell the class about your or your person’s experience with the infection/illness, describing the signs and symptoms, how it was diagnosed, the treatment (if it is ongoing describe what is ongoing), and the outcome. Do so using medical terminology, to include the type of doctor seen in the diagnosis and treatment of the infection or illness. Also, provide a brief description of a reproductive infection/illness unique to men. (300 words)

Medical-surgical unit

You are a nursing student who is assigned to a busy medical-surgical unit that specializes in the care of patients with diabetes-related conditions. One of your patients for the day is Ms. Ncube, a 63-year-old woman who is post-operative for an amputation of the right foot. You enter the room to conduct your morning assessment and you find that Ms. Ncube is crying uncontrollably. She confides to you that she feels helpless and that she does not know how she will continue to live her life autonomously without her foot. She states that she cannot bare for herself or anyone else to see her wound. Although you empathize with Ms. Ncube, you are very busy today and have a limited amount of time to conduct your assessment.

  • How do you think you may navigate this situation given Ms. Ncube’s emotional status and also your time limitation to complete your needed tasks?
  • Part of your assessment includes observing Ms. Ncube’s amputation site. How may you assess the site while still being therapeutic and respecting your patient?
  • How many Ms. Ncube’s emotional status affect your overall assessment? Could her emotional status alter any of your assessments?
