Mental Health among nurses VS. Covid-19

In this assignment, you will propose a quality improvement initiative from your place of employment that could easily be implemented if approved. Assume you are presenting this program to the board for approval of funding. Write an executive summary to present to the board, from which the board will make its decision to fund your program or project. Include the following:
The purpose of the quality improvement initiative.
The target population or audience.
The benefits of the quality improvement initiative.
Interprofessional collaboration would be required to implement the quality improvement initiative.
The cost or budget justification.
The basis upon which the quality improvement initiative will be evaluated. The topic that I would like to choose for this essay is Mental Health among nurses VS. Covid-19. This subject is very dear to me because I, myself have experienced a mental decline when caring for Covid patients. This is also important to me because both of my in-laws were recently placed on ventilators due to Covid. My father-in-law passed away on 8-3-21 and my mother-in-law is still fighting for her life. I know the mental toll this can have on healthcare workers as I have seen it first hand looking at the tears in the eyes of the nurses as they apologized profusely for not being able to save my Father-in-law who I called Daddy. Some of the nurses told us that if they had one more young patient die due to Covid that they were done. I’ve never worked in an ICU but I can imagine the pain and heartache they face every day while also putting on a brave face for the patients and their families. At the facility I work at, my administrator converted one of our rooms to a bigger, more comfortable breakroom so that the staff felt like they had a safe space. I think all healthcare facilities should implement something of this nature in order to help the staff relax and recharge when they feel the need to do so. There is obviously more to be said about this subject that I will be sure to include and highlight in my Topic 3 assignment.

The role of the cultural context in symptomatology

DSM-5 gives an appendix of information about multicultural aspects of diagnosis. It is divided into two sections. The first section is an “outline for cultural formulation” that is intended to supplement the multiaxial diagnostic assessment and to address complexities that arise when applying DSM-5 criteria in a multicultural environment. It systematically reviews peoples’ cultural backgrounds, the role of the cultural context in symptomatology, and also cultural differences between the patient and clinician. The second section is a glossary of “culture-bound syndromes.” For instance, hwa-byung (also known as wool-hwa-byung) is a Korean folk syndrome attributed to the suppression of anger. Its symptoms include insomnia, fatigue, panic, fear of impending death, dysphoric effect, indigestion, anorexia, dyspnea, palpitations, generalized aches and pains, and a feeling of a mass in the upper middle region of the abdomen.

Explain how culture affects what is considered normal and abnormal, and describe one different culture-specific disorder using the attached reference list.

Role Strain and Burnout in Nursing

Write a 1000-1500 word essay addressing each of the following points/questions. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. There should be three main sections, one for each bullet below. Separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Support your ideas with at least three (3) sources using citations in your essay. Make sure to cite using the APA writing style for the essay. The cover page and reference page in the correct APA do not count toward the minimum word amount. Review the rubric criteria for this assignment.

  • What happens to the nurse when role stress or strain becomes too overwhelming? What happens to patient care? How is this related to possible ethical and legal issues? Discuss how nurses can manage or reduce role stress and role strain.
  • Explain two issues that lead to nurse burnout and discuss a solution for each issue.
  • Think of an experience in your nursing profession where you either felt strain or burnout and how you overcame this event. (Since this is a personal experience, you can use first-person narration for this portion of your essay.)

Recovery program for chemically-impaired nurses

As the nurse executive of a healthcare organization, it was reported to you that one of your nurses may be chemically impaired (legal/regulatory issue) and has allegedly been taking drugs from the unit. This nurse also had two recent medication errors in the past week. Discuss the steps you would take to validate this allegation and how you would proceed after the allegation was confirmed to be true.

Chronic Health Paper: Anal Cancer in the LGBTQIA population

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is:

  1. Integrate knowledge and skills learned throughout the NR503 course
  2. Direct application of course objectives utilizing epidemiological analysis of a chronic health problem, along with state and national-level data.

Requirements:

This paper should clearly and comprehensively discuss a chronic health disease.

The paper should be organized into the following sections:

  1. Introduction(Identification of the problem) with a clear presentation of the problem as well as the significance and a scholarly overview of the paper’s content. No heading is used for the Introduction per APA current edition.
  2. Background and Significance of the disease, to include:  Definition, description, signs, and symptoms.  Incidence and prevalence of statistics by state with a comparison to national statistics pertaining to the disease.  If after a search of the library and scholarly databases, you are unable to find statistics for your home state, or other states, consider this a gap in the data and state as much in the body of the paper. For instance, you may state something like, “After an exhausting search of the scholarly databases, this writer is unable to locate incidence and/or prevalence data for the state of ….  This indicates a gap in surveillance that will be included in the “Plan” section of this paper.
  3. Surveillance and Reporting: Current surveillance methods and mandated reporting processes as related to the chronic health condition chosen should be specific.
  4. Epidemiological Analysis:  Conduct a descriptive epidemiology analysis of the health condition. Be sure to include all of the 5 W’s:  What, Who, Where, When, Why.  Use details associated with all of the W’s, such as the “Who” which should include an analysis of the determinants of health.  Include costs (both financial and social) associated with the disease or problem.
  5. Screening and Guidelines:  Review how the disease is diagnosed and current national standards (guidelines).  Pick one screening test (review Week 2 Discussion Board) and review its sensitivity, specificity, predictive value, and cost.
  6. Plan:  Integrating evidence, provide a plan of how a nurse practitioner will address this chronic health condition after graduation.  Provide three specific interventions that are based on the evidence and include how you will measure outcomes (how will you know that the interventions have utility, are useful?)  Note:  Consider primary, secondary, and tertiary interventions as well as the integration of health policy advocacy efforts.  All interventions should be based on evidence – connected to a resource such as a scholarly piece of research.
  7. Summary/Conclusion: Conclude in a clear manner with a brief overview of the keys points from each section of the paper utilizing the integration of resources.
  8. The paper should be formatted and organized into the following sections which focus on the chosen chronic health condition.
