The ANA Scope and Standards of Practice

The ANA Scope and Standards of Practice describe how registered nurses use the nursing process as the foundation for decision-making and care delivery. These are the standards of care you will be held accountable to as an RN. They are the basis for evaluating the appropriateness and quality of your nursing care in the event you are involved in a malpractice lawsuit.

Base your response in this discussion post on the ANA Standards of Professional Practice. Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice (Links to an external site.) (4th ed.)

  • Choose one of the six (6) ANA Standards of Practice (starting on p. 53). Compare and contrast how the practice of an RN is different from your current role in healthcare for that standard. Provide specific examples to supports your explanation.
  • Discuss an experience in your life (as a patient, family member or professional) where an RN demonstrated one of the competencies from the ANA Standard of Practice.

Base your initial post on your readings and research on this topic.

Community nursing and home care packages

Abby is the Quality Improvement Officer for a service that provides residential care, respite care, daycare, community nursing and home care packages, palliative care, and dementia-specific. Her role includes managing the facility’s legal and ethical compliance, ensuring AHPRA registration is up to date, and maintaining collaborative and effective relationships between all designations within the facility.

Linda, a care staff employee, comes to work with symptoms of gastroenteritis. She knows that if she stays at home her work area would be understaffed. After a few hours on duty, Linda begins to feel weak and unsteady. She reports this to her team leader who sends her home immediately.

That evening several residents show symptoms of gastroenteritis and one resident becomes seriously unwell and is transferred to the hospital. The next morning the facility is placed in lockdown.

Abby receives a report from Linda’s team leader regarding the incident the previous day when she sent Linda home. Abby believes that because of Linda’s failure to comply with the organization’s policies and procedures regarding infection control, the service has breached its duty of care to provide clients with a safe and healthy environment.

please read case study I’ve attach questions below that is relevant to the case study thankyou

Genetically inherited mutation cancers

A 28-year-old woman tells you her mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 42 and her 35-year-old sister has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. She asks you if there is anything she should be doing to screen for and assess her own risk for breast and ovarian cancers. However, she tells you that she does not carry health insurance.

  • What do you advise this patient based on current recommendations for screening for potential genetically inherited mutation cancers?
  • What options would you consider for this patient who does not carry any type of health insurance?

Nurse executive roles and responsibilities

English is not my first language need help with grammar correction BELOW, Thanks

This phase of reflection is an insight into my interview with the clinical nurse manager and how the CPE objectives were attained. Based on the interview I had with the clinical nurse manager, I learned of the different tasks and responsibilities she must accomplish each day for the smooth running of her office ranging from patient care, administrative meeting, and management of the unit. Each day is different with its own challenges. Some days are full of meetings while some days are no meetings at all. I was opportune to observe how she carry out some of her functions for the day, her roles, and responsibilities. It was amazing seeing her going through the hospital policy and some of the clinical policies on procedures on her unit and updating areas that needed attention for revision.

The CPE activities were much, however the materials in the course and the task covered, gave me a clear understanding of a nurse executive roles and responsibilities. Also, not just any graduate nurses can hold such a position, there are also advanced certifications for nurse executives to qualify for the position.  Some of the tasks they engaged in include reviewing and reversing policies, implementing new policies and procedures when necessary, firing and overseeing the hiring process, and developing business plans and budgets for the nursing unit. Some of the essential skills needed for the job include effective communication both written and verbal skills coupled with good leadership and technical skills.

Health Promotion and Perfusion

Tina Jones, a 28-year-old woman, was sent to the hospital for IV antibiotics after accidentally scraping her foot while climbing down a ladder. The patient also has a fever and an increased blood sugar level. Although the patient has a history of asthma and diabetes, she does not regularly test her blood sugar. Tina Jones reported her pain at 9 and was given oxycodone. Ms. Jones was afebrile, she had a low-grade fever of 100.4 F.

1. How would Health Promotion and Perfusion be an important concept in this scenario?

2. What are some abnormal signs and symptoms and thoroughly explain how they would prioritize the care of this patient.

3. How would you change your interventions if you had a second chance to care for this patient?

4. How would you apply what you have learned from this scenario to future patients?

Physical growth and development

Julie, an 11½-year-old girl, and John, a 14-year-old boy, are siblings who had a physical examination for school. Julie grew over 3 inches in height and John grew about half an inch in last year. “She’s almost as tall as I am, and I’m older than she is,” John says. That’s not right. I’m the shortest of my group of friends. “Am I destined to be short?”
When the nurse assesses Julie and John, what differences in physical growth and development do you think she’ll find?
What information should the nurse include in her response to John’s concern about his height?

The acceleration of gravity at the object’s surface

The surface gravity of an object, which technically is the acceleration of gravity at the object’s surface, depends on the mass of the object and its radius.

1) You discover two stars, Star A and Star B. They both have the same radius, but Star B has a larger mass than Star A. Is the surface gravity of Star B larger than, smaller than, or the same as the surface gravity of Star A? Explain your answer.

2)  At some point in the future, the Sun will shrink so that its radius is about 100 times smaller than it is now, but its mass will be essentially unchanged. Will the surface gravity of the smaller Sun be larger than, smaller than, or the same as the surface gravity of the current Sun? Explain your answer.

Kepler’s laws of planetary motion

Newton demonstrated that the gravitational force is responsible for Kepler’s laws of planetary motion. Consider Kepler’s 3rd law (in its original form): p2 = a3, and then the form Newton derived for it. Because the Sun’s mass plays a role in determining the p values for a given value of a, comparing values of p and a for planets around other stars can provide insight into whether that star is more or less massive than the Sun. Rank the hypothetical planets based on their host star’s mass by examining their semimajor axis (a) and period (p) values.
