You are assigned to a medical-surgical unit of a hospital. The charge nurse has asked you to provide education to an 80yo widow, living alone in her independent apartment. She has just been diagnosed with insulin-dependent diabetes.
- List factors you will assess prior to providing education and instruction on diabetes education. What strategies will you consider as you provide written and verbal instructions? What tools or teaching aides may be important to consider? what resources provide insight into your education planning?
- How will you know this patient can manage diabetes care (diet, activity, and insulin administration) when she returns home?
