A History of hearing impairment from a war

A 78 year old male patient is admitted to your unit. He has a history of hearing impairment from a war. His left ear is deaf and his right ear has a 50% hearing loss. He has a hearing aid for the right ear, but his family did not bring the hearing aid with the patient.
They live 100 miles from the hospital, and it will not be possible for them to bring the hearing aid in. During your assessment you determine he would communicate by reading lips.
What considerations should you make when communicating with this patient?
What additional equipment or interventions could be used to improve communication with the patient?
