The autonomic nervous system is involuntary. It controls the heart, smooth muscles, and some glands during times of stress and of relaxation. The two parts of the brain that control the autonomic nervous system are the medulla oblongata and pons hypothalamus and medulla oblongata and thalamus hypothalamus and thalamus
