Ecological validity model

Ecological validity examines whether the results of a study can be generalized to real-life settings. What are the eight domains of the cultural competency of the Ecological Validity Model?

Allied health community

While all allied health care professionals possess specialized knowledge of fields, applying that knowledge in the clinical setting requires each health care provider to view his or her role as a vital component of the greater whole. Read the content about the different health care professions located in the “Allied Health Community” media. This component of the media illustrates those allied health professions that have direct interactions with patients. Explain why it is important for health care providers to have a basic understanding of the scope of practice for the various health care professions. Describe the communication skills necessary to communicate effectively among the various health care professions to achieve desired outcomes.

Predict the effect the mutation

Under each of the following conditions, please predict the effect the mutation will have on the rate at which glycolysis will proceed in liver cells: a. Loss of the allosteric site for ATP in phosphofructokinase b. Loss of binding site for citrate in phosphofructokinase c. Loss of the phosphatase domain of the bifunctional enzyme that controls the level of fructose 2,6-bisphosphate d. Loss of the binding site for fructose 1,6- bisphosphate in pyruvate kinase.

The detection of sensory stimuli

the division of the vertebrate nervous system that is responsible for the detection of sensory stimuli is the:

a. somatic nervous system

b. afferent division

c. symapathetic nervous system

d. the autonomic nervous system

e. parasympathetic nervous system

Cancer therapy

Suppose a new cancer therapy is being tested in a large clinical trial. The therapy is working well; it seems that it is extending the lives of patients suffering from a deadly form of cancer. But the results are not yet statistically significant and there’s a small chance the extended lives is just a coincidence. The trial is stopping so that those who are not getting the therapy – those in the control arm – can be given the new therapy, so everyone can benefit. The physician-researchers directing the trial claim that stopping the trial before it provides statistically-significant data – before they can prove the drug is really the reason people are living longer – might in fact delay the therapy’s wider use (for example, getting FDA approval). Evaluate the moral implications of stopping the new cancer therapy versus the moral implications of continuing it. Be explicit in your use of the moral principles in your answer.

The vertebrate nervous system

This part of the vertebrate nervous system is often called the second brain because it can function independently, its neurons are organized in microcircuits that contain afferent neurons that respond to local stimuli to integrate information and coordinate motor output, and has its own glial support cells.

Consequences of drinking alcohol

Even after knowing about the consequences, why do you think young people would start to drink alcohol? What risky behaviors could teens sometimes engage in while being under the influence? How might the way media portrays drinking alcohol influence a teen’s perception about drinking alcohol?
