Renovations and new Landscaping.

Ryan works at the local church. It is undergoing renovations and new landscaping. The church has a number of volunteers who come along and help out during the week.

Two of the volunteers have disabilities – one is visually impaired and the other uses a wheelchair.

Upon surveying the exterior one day, Ryan notices that much of the surface at the main entrance of the church is made of gravel. The gravel path is also very close to the busy front street. He is concerned that this may not be very safe for some of the volunteers.

Insurance and Payment system

1. Some people feel that the quality of care is compromised in the third-party  Insurance and Payment system. What do you think?

2. What groups do you believe are not being served under the current system of government health care programs? How should they be served? What services should be provided? How will the government pay for these services?

3. Should the government mandate what benefits health insurance covers or what price can be charged?

Is the intercellular fluid hypertonic?

A man is stranded in the Sahara Desert and as a consequence, he is severely dehydrated two days later. Is the intercellular fluid hypertonic compared to his extracellular fluid?

Does the statement correlate with his condition? There will be a net movement of water out of the cell due to osmosis.

His cell cannot sustain this much fluid volume and will burst. His intercellular fluid is hypotonic compared to his extracellular fluid

There will be a net movement of water out of the cell due to osmosis and His intercellular fluid is hypotonic co

Wound Care Specialty

Classify and describe a set of problems common to wound care specialty that are applicable to patient healing of wound that can be addressed by a nurse in an advanced care role.

Explain the knowledge gaps the patient has that a nurse in an advanced care role can address.

Generate an individualized plan of care for the patient

Provide a goal that leads to improved outcomes

Explain the solutions for any complex problems through a systematic method of data collection

Epigenetic influence on health endpoint

Which of the following would NOT be an example of an epigenetic influence on health endpoint? S-adenosyl methionine consumption leads to altered fetal gene expression in utero

Consumption of folic acid and certain vegetable influences DNA methylation patterns and possibly the development of bowel cancer

Bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates alter microRNA expression in human placental cells and increase the risk of endocrine disorders later in the life of offspring.

A single base substitution in the 6th DNA triplet of the beta-globin gene leads to the production of & quot; sickle cell& quot; globin, resulting in the expression of sickle cell trait or sickle cell anemia

Phases of a QI project

  1. What are the phases of a QI project? Provide a brief description of each phase.
  2. QI requires change. As a leader in QI, you will be expected to be a part of this change. Reflect on your tolerance for change. Summarize your level of flexibility and adaptability. Provide at least one strategy to improve your adaptability.
  3. What qualities or characteristics would you expect from members of a QI team? Explain.

Silence parts of the Genome

The epigenome can modify the way DNA is structured or silence parts of the Genome. The three modifications that have been most studied are: Cytokinesis, protein synthesis modification, zygote restructuring DNA methylation, histone modification, and the interaction of microRNAs with the genome Post-translational modification, germline mutations, and single-nucleotide polymorphisms Developmental modifications, environmental modifications, and nutritional modification Explain this.

Course of Intravenous antibiotics

A patient contracts C-difficile after a prolonged course of Intravenous antibiotics. This is an example of: MicroRNA failing to perform its function due to an overgrowth of C-difficile bacteria A situation that is unrelated to epigenetics The microbiome interacting with the epigenome to influence health status Methylation of intestinal cells by the antibiotic use which results in acute infection

Children who have been exposed to domestic violence

View the following film on children who have been exposed to domestic violence (Please note that this film may be disturbing to some):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YhxerkkHUs (Links to an external site.)

Address the following:

1. What are your thoughts after viewing this film?

2. Research suggests that in the long term, children who have been exposed to domestic violence—especially those children who do not receive therapeutic intervention may be at increased risk of criminal and violent behavior.  Did Beth demonstrate any of these behaviors? Provide examples.

3. Beth recovered from her trauma and is currently a practicing RN who works with abused children.  What are some factors/interventions that help children recover from traumatic experiences?

Common trisomy disorder

Why is Down syndrome the most common trisomy disorder seen among live-born infants? The extra alleles from trisomies of larger chromosomes are embryo lethal. Nondisjunction occurs more frequently for chromosome 21 than for any other chromosome. Trisomies resulting from nondisjunction express fewer alleles than trisomies that result from unbalanced translocations. The incidence may not be truly higher but is recognized more often because the features of a baby with trisomy 21 are more obvious and not missed as often as are the more subtle features of other trisomies.
