Sexual division of labor

Describe (and compare and contrast) the gender or sexual division of labor of two different cultures that have two different modes of subsistence (from the four modes of subsistence described in this week’s reading; foraging, pastoralism, horticulture, or agriculture). You must choose the two societies from examples in the Week 3 textbook reading and you must name the two societies from the Week 3 textbook reading and cite them. How do your chosen examples of two different cultures show that subsistence systems are linked to cultural expectations about gender roles?

Erik Erikson’s psychosocial development theory

Choose one of the stages in Erik Erikson’s psychosocial development theory that you have experienced or are experiencing now. How do you feel about completing this stage? What impact did that difficult time have on your personality?

As a starting point, let’s consider what we know about the stage as a whole. Then, make the connection to one’s own life, explaining how values and experiences relate. Include meaningful words, symbols, and examples. A memorable day in one’s life during that period may be the moment of the climax of a key event or moment.

Explain the differences between a polygenic trait and a pleiotropic gene

Explain the differences between a polygenic trait and a pleiotropic gene. Give an example of each. Why are these important to understand? 4). Explain the different ways replication works in DNA. What happens if the replication does not happen correctly? Give an anthropological example.

Difference between anatomically modern humans and great apes

What is the major functional and anatomical difference between anatomically modern humans and great apes in terms of this part of the body (i.e., the neck)?  Why might longer cervical spinous processes be advantageous in great apes?

Consider the maquiladoras as an economic basis for social (human) development

Consider the maquiladoras as an economic basis for social (human) development.  Look at all sides of the maquiladora phenomenon, go through all the pros and cons, look at the multiple perspectives, and then come to a carefully reasoned overall assessment of them. Remember, it is important to demonstrate to me that you understand the concepts and the case material. Do not use chapter 3 for the paper (you’ve already reflected on your main post), but rather discussed from the rest of the chapters. The paper should be several paragraphs and in detail with citations or sorces.

How did the armchair anthropology and the off-the-veranda approaches differ as methods to study culture?

Ethnocentric portrayals

What does this example make you think about in terms of how we frame others? How can we avoid the issues resulting from ethnocentric portrayals of others? What kind of a difference can it make to present a culturally-relative perspective and how is this significant?

Perspectives of Eating Disorders in Men and Boys

Peer Response The Journal of Men’s Studies article, "It’s a Touchy Subject": Service Providers’ Perspectives of Eating Disorders in Men and Boys" explores the perceptions and experiences of providers of eating disorder services towards men to understand the challenges and barriers experienced by spoth professionals and patients in addressing the gender bias within this field (Foye, Mycock, et al, 2023).

This small study (n=21) was performed in two phases-first concerns were discussed by participants and from there a secondary analysis was performed on the data. The findings showed that there were three main areas contributing to the barriers in diagnosing and treating men’s eating disorders. First, is that masculinity dictates that men do not seek help. Secondly, the fact that eating disorders are identified as a "woman’s issue." a stereotype held by those suffering and, unfortunately, many service providers. Lastly, there is no place nor protocol for treating men’s eating disorders even if a client is fortunate enough to admit to having a problem, needing help, and finding a provider who acknowledges that men in fact can develop an eating disorder. From this article, I have learned that gender stereotypes can pervade the mental health field-the DSM-V finally removes amenorrhea as a criteria. While men’s eating disorders may present differently from women’s, they still share a commonality. Resources, education, and treatment must be developed for these people. Explain one adaptation humans have evolved

For each of the four types of adaptations described above, (short-term, facultative, developmental, and cultural), identify and explain one adaptation humans have evolved or developed to solve the problems caused by your chosen stress. Use the information in the assignment module to locate these adaptations. Include one image for each adaptation. To summarize, you should have four separate sections here, one for each type of adaptation, with an image for each.

Learning about the digestive system

Activities
1. Read the instructions posted in this week’s Module, and attached them here, for guidance on how discussions will be used for this class. The instructions include an example of how to format this type of discussion and a grading rubric.

2. This week we are learning about the digestive system. For this discussion, we’ll review how our eating choices and our environment affect our health. Choose an eating style for humans that is important to you or that you are curious about. Some suggested eating styles are provided below, but you may choose a different style than is listed. The style you choose must have peer-reviewed scientific research written about its effect on human health.

EXAMPLES OF EATING STYLES:

Paleo
Vegetarian
Vegan
Ketogenic
Whole 30
South Beach
Mediterranean
Atkins
Weight Watcher
Zone
USDA MyPlate
Raw Food

3. You will write a 220+ word essay/discussion about how this way of eating is beneficial to or detrimental to human health – what diseases/conditions does it cause/cure. You must use at least two valid peer-reviewed sources of scientific research, published within the last five years, to support your opinion. Be sure to include both in-text citations and list the references for your sources using MLA format. In-text citations and references do not count toward the discussion word count.
