ASSESSING THE FEMALE GENITALS AND INGUINAL AREA

ASSESSING THE FEMALE GENITALS AND INGUINAL AREA PROCEDURE 1. Provide for client privacy. Request the presence of another healthcare provider if desired, required by agency policy, or requested by the client.

2. Cover the pelvic area with a sheet or drape at all times when the client is not actually being examined. Position the client supine.

3. Inspect the distribution, amount, and characteristics of pubic hair.

4. Inspect the skin of the pubic area for parasites, inflammation, swelling, and lesions. To assess pubic skin adequately, separate the labia majora and labia minora.

5. Inspect the clitoris, urethral orifice, and vaginal orifice when separating the labia

mInora.

6. Palpate the inguinal lymph nodes. Use the pads of the fingers in a rotary motion, noting any enlargement or tenderness.

7. Remove and discard gloves.Perform hand hygiene.

Increasing number of Providers veering away from primary care

Do you agree or disagree with the question response? Why or why not? There have been an increasing number of providers veering away from primary care and leaning towards specializing and sub-specializing, which may negatively impact health care. Many providers see the greater reward, support, and success in specialty fields that are not seen in general primary care

One way to steer providers towards primary care would be by incentivizing it further, but from the education level

For example, SUNY Buffalo recognized a shortage in biomedical scientists due to the fact that a large percentage of students majoring in biomedical science were pre-med and ended up going to medical school to practice as physicians post graduation.

To combat this issue, the university began offering a scholarship program that covered the cost of tuition and a percentage of room and board for students majoring in biomedical science who were not planning on attending medical school.

If students accepted this offer but later decided to pursue medical school they would be required to pay back the money the program awarded them. Medical Schools and Nurse Practitioner programs can implement a similar idea that incentivizes continuing onto primary care from early on.

The cost of these schools can be a large burden and the idea of having that burden alleviated would most likely be appealing to many students. As a result, more providers may pursue primary care and be less interested in specializing from the start.

ASSESSING THE NOSE AND SINUSES

hello. can you rationalize the procedure? thank you for ASSESSING THE NOSE AND SINUSES. Position the client comfortably, seated if possible.

2. inspect the external nose for any deviations in shape, size, or color and flaring or discharge from the nares.

3. Lightly palpate the external nose to determine any areas of tenderness, masses, and displacements of bone and cartilage.

4. Determine patency of both nasal cavities. Ask the client o close the mouth, exert pressure on one naris, and breathe through the opposite naris. Repeat the procedure to assess patency of the opposite naris.

5. Inspect the nasal cavities using a flashlight or a nasal speculum.

  • Hold the speculum in your right hand to inspect the client’s left nostril and your left hand to inspect the client’s right nostril.
  • Tip the client’s head back.
  • Facing the client, insert the tip of the speculum about 1 cm (0.4 in.). care must be taken to avoid pressure on the sensitive nasal septum.
  • Inspect the lining of the nares and the integrity and the position of the nasal septum.

6. Observe for the presence  of redness, swelling ,growths, and discharge.

7. Inspect the nasal septum between the nasal chambers.

8. Palpate the maxillary and frontal sinuses  for tenderness.

9. Document findings in the client record using printed or electronic forms or checklists supplemented by narrative notes when appropriate.
