Discovering the new world of research and evidence-based practice (EBP)

We begin our journey into discovering the new world of research and evidence-based practice (EBP) by exploring our past. After completing the required readings and lesson, answer the following:

  • Explain how research has evolved since the Florence Nightingale era.
  • Discuss how research and EBP are different; include how you believe research supports EBP for nursing.
  • Describe one past/historical unethical breach of research conduct; then, share how you would ensure care of a study participant using one ethical or legal research consideration (guideline/principle).

Brief overview of peripheral arterial disease

Review and provide a brief overview of peripheral arterial disease. Discuss the patient-specific assessment for peripheral arterial disease. Identify 2 disorders associated with peripheral arterial disease. Who is at risk for the identified disorder?

Pharmacologic and Non-pharmacologic therapies

Cindy Lizzo is a 10-year-old who was playing at the playground at school and fell from the monkey bars. What pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies would you expect to be used to manage Cindy’s pain? What are the implications of unmanaged pain? She held her left leg and began to scream uncontrollably. EMS and her mother were called. She was taken to the local hospital.

Cindy lives with her mother and two siblings, 6-year-old Roger and 12-year-old Betty. Her father died in a car accident a few years ago. Her mother works as a receptionist in a law office. Her family is now at the hospital. Cindy undergoes an open reduction and internal fixation of tibial fracture. She has been in the post-anesthesia unit for approximately 45 minutes. As she arouses from sleep, she begins to moan and call for her mother, “I want my mom! Where is she?”.

Her vital signs are “HR: 115 beats/minute; T: 37.4 C oral; BP: 122/74 mm Hg; RR: 25 breaths/minutes with oxygen saturation of 94% on room air.

1.  What signs indicate that Cindy may be in pain?

2.  What are the effects of hospitalization for Cindy and her family? Consider implementing atraumatic/trauma-informed care.

4.  As Cindy’s primary nurse what assessments and interventions do you expect to perform? How will you collaborate with the interdisciplinary team?

Part-2: Reflection

The purpose of this assignment is to allow you to reflect on your overall growth in the course( Child Health Nursing).

To get full credit for this assignment you must reply to 2 of your classmates posting.

When you reply, it should not be ” I really liked your posting.” It should be on how you will use this information in your nursing practice or how the posting relates to other nursing theories. You should have at least two hundred.

Understanding of the Relationship between research science and faith

To develop your understanding of the Relationship between research science and faith/spirituality, please consider and evaluate how the following key themes and insights gained from faith teachings might inform your research agenda and clinical practice:

Kant’s deontological argument

Explain Kant’s deontological argument and apply it to the growing number of anti-vaxxers who feel like their rights are being violated by the efforts of the federal government to mandate mask-wearing and require vaccinations for employment. Is this the proper use of this ethical theory? Are anti-vaxxers correct in their understanding of the COVID rollout effort?

How can you convince them otherwise?  Use real-life examples from the CDC, and news/media to support your answer and make sure your sources for facts are from reputable sources.

2) Explain the Utilitarian Consequentialist ethical theory and apply it to the efforts of the Federal government’s vaccination efforts. Use examples from the textbook from elder care, care for adolescents and children and especially Chapter 11 on Public health policy to support your answer. Once again, feel free to use the CDC, news about the government, state, etc. to support your answer.
