Clinical Geneticists Describe: Clinical geneticists are physicians who specialize to treat the patient with genetic conditions or diseases mainly with inherited diseases (eg) familial breast cancer. These physician are further categorized based on four specialties such as 1) Clinical genetics (deals directly with patient care) 2) Clinical biochemical genetics (diagnosis inborn error of metabolism) 3) Clinical cytogenetics (Study the chromosomal abnormalities) and d) Clinical molecular genetics (focus the abnormalities at gene level).This categorization is based on American board of medical genetics certification. a) Main duties: i. A complete understanding of the medical and family history of the patient (pedigree analysis)
