Compare Structural Therapy to Strategic Therapy
Part 1
: Compare Structural Therapy to Strategic Therapy in a 2- to 3-page paper, address the following:
–the key points of both structural family therapy and strategic family therapy, noting the differences/similarities and strengths/weaknesses of each.
–Structural family therapy emphasizes the importance of a structure with a clear parental hierarchy. Consider the artful and skillful use of the technique of setting and respecting boundaries (Minuchin). Give examples of using/setting boundaries with your own family; do not forget to include the people’s responses to them. What problems emerge when this organization does not occur?
Part 2: Construct or Draw a three-generation genogram diagram of your family (parents, grandparents, and great grandparents); submit genogram w/ your response to question below. Be brief with your answers.
- How do you think your family has contributed to your development?
- Also, discuss your family in terms of evolution: how are you improving on some aspect of historical patterns? What is the next step in the evolution of your family?
- Describe your insights into patterns of family functioning. Use some of Bowenian concepts, minimum of 2 is required. Also, use it to identify family strengths and resources – what is something you may not have noticed before that might be considered an asset?
