Deoxyribonucleic acid repair

What kind of Deoxyribonucleic acid repair would you expect to be used to repair DNA damage caused by radiation that astronauts might be exposed to on their way to Mars and why? I suspect its Base on excision repair (BER) but am unsure if other methods are used in combination with BER.
