Case study
Mrs Abdullah is a 62-year-old woman with four children who are all married and living abroad. She is from Libya and is Muslim. She has been living in Malta for the past 10 years. She has a history of diabetes mellitus type 2, and hypertension. She has been suffering from renal insufficiency for the past two years. She was brought into the emergency department by her husband. She presented with progressively worsening shortness of breath, fatigue, generalized oedema, and oliguria. After initial assessments and investigations, she was diagnosed with progression of chronic kidney disease to end-stage renal disease. She was admitted to the ward where you work. The plan of care is to start haemodialysis therapy immediately. She looks confused and anxious. Her husband is not willing to leave her bedside at any time.
Question. Formulate a detailed care plan of Mrs Abdullah’s nutritional needs. The care plan should follow the nursing process: assessment, problem identification, implementation of care and evaluation. You are asked to adopt a comprehensive person-centred approach.
