Holistic health Case Study #1 – Hypertension Mr. Frank is a 58 year old white male with a family history of hypertension. His father also died of an MI at the age of 60. Mr. Frank states that he checked his BP “at one of those BP monitors at Walgreens” and saw that it was 180/100. He has also been under a lot of stress at work. He has been married or 35 years and has 3 children-21,24, and 29 as well as one granddaughter. He made an appointment in order to get better control over his hypertension.1. What could you ask Mr. Frank in order to see him holistically as the “whole patient?” Remember to ask open ended questions in order to treat the whole patient and not just his hypertension.2.He states, “I need to get better control of my blood pressure, but I am under a lot of stress at work.” I am also trying to get my youngest through college, and my wife is now working part-time so she can care for our granddaughter 3 days a week while my son and daughter-in-law work. What types of stress reduction measures could the nurse suggest?

3. Mr Frank states, “I don’t want to take a whole bunch of medications. I am worried about the side effects. Are there any natural remedies that I cound try?” What would you suggest to Mr. Frank?4. What types of tests do you think may be ordered for Mr. Frank?5. What other nursing interventions would be appropriate?3. Mr Frank states, “I don’t want to take a whole bunch of medications.
