Learning more about Informatics in nursing practice

I have come with learning more about Informatics in nursing practice. I’ve increased my score from 26 to 38 over these 8 weeks.  I have grown in this class to understand how often I do use informatics daily in my nursing career. This class has for sure taught me that I did not know nearly as much as I thought I did. I am very thankful that I took this class to learn more about how different technologies work. I will be able to apply the knowledge that I have gained to be able to better care for my patients.

We use information systems every day in our profession. According to the Handbook of Informatics for Nurses and Healthcare, the use of informatics by nurses in their daily Care enhances their patient relationships, improves patient care, and minimizes medication errors ( Hebda, T., Hunter, K., & Czar, P., 2018). we can decrease our time processing a patient. It allows us to give new treatment plans and procedures without more extended coordination among other healthcare personnel.

I have learned that there is an ever-growing amount of research available to nurses, and nurses need to include evidence-based practice in their plan of care. In nursing, we need to use research to help us progress in our healthcare field, which improves patient care. The ultimate goal in nursing is to prevent disease, advance treatments, discover new ones, and guide the future of our profession.

Evidence-based practice is vital for nurses to give overall informed patient care. It’s essential for nurses, especially as we advance our education and obtain our BSN, to understand why evidence-based practice is so important for our healthcare. When we advance our education, we as nurses the way for new treatment protocols and create new advances in medicine.

It ultimately lowers the costs of care and helps to improve nursing skills for today and the future nurse. We always have new information coming out, and we as nurses need to take this data and use it to our best knowledge.

This class was so important because it helped me as a nurse expand my mind and knowledge of using informatics in my career. It’s essential to stay informed and stay fresh on topics and concerns in our profession. We have to remember that our main goal is to make sure all of our patients get the best quality of care they deserve from all of us.
