Intercalated discs desmosomes contract gap junctions

Intercalated discs desmosomes contract gap junctions. Cardiocytes are connected by structures called Intercalated discs. They include fascia adherents, actin and myosin filaments attached to plasma membranes, and weld-like structures called the cytoplasms between adjacent cells, which are connected and permit ions to pass from one cell to the next. The movement of ions between adjacent cells is exceptionally important as it allows all cardiocytes in a chamber wall to depolarize and subsequently simultaneously.
