Learning objectives
Every week, the student should set a minimum of three (3) learning objectives. Learning objectives may vary among students and the workplace. The student should set specific and measurable objectives, e.g., by the end of this week, provide nursing care to two residents in age care under supervision with minimal assistance from the preceptor. The student should plan and implement strategies in achieving the set objectives.
During the first two days of the clinical experience, the clinical educator will review and discuss the objectives at formative and summative assessment meetings.
The weekly objectives demonstrate the student’s understanding of their learning requirements and describe the steps required to achieve the learning outcome. Individual objectives guide the planning of learning opportunities and allow Clinical educators to determine whether students have achieved the expected learning outcomes.
