Experiencing fever and Lower abdominal pain

Victoria Halsey is a 40-year-old high school teacher who has been experiencing fever and lower abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, and diarrhea for the past 3 days. Victoria came into the ER yesterday and was admitted to your surgical ward last night. Diagnostic tests are all pending to determine the cause of Victoria’s symptoms.

The admitting physician’s diagnosis is “appendicitis” but Victoria is awaiting a surgical consult to determine if the diagnosis is correct. Victoria is quite worried about her son Taylor who is 13 years old. Victoria is a single mom and is trying to find a place for Taylor to stay while she is hospitalized.

You are assigned as Victoria’s student nurse during your 12-hour day shift. While waiting for the pending diagnostic results and surgical consult, Victoria complains of increased pain and vomits again.

• May have to do IV (Flush and hook up)
