Sometimes microorganisms cause problems, while sometimes they are involved in a solution
Take a look in the news (anywhere you normally get your news from is fine) from the past 3 months and find an article to share with your classmates that involves a microorganism and current events.
Link to the article here and in a well-organized and cited paragraph share information on:
• The name of the organism.
• What type of microorganism is it? Is it bacteria, a virus, a fungus, a protozoan? What does it mean to be that class of microbe (See your Week One reading: physical, chemical, environmental/behavioral properties)?
◦ You may need to look this up elsewhere, the Centers for Disease Control, United States Department of Agriculture, and the American Society for Microbiology are all good places to start.
• Why is it in the news? Why is it important or of concern?
◦ Especially if you choose an article about SARS-Co-2, the causative agent of CoViD-19, please detail what in particular is newsworthy about this article. Is it a new treatment? Complication? Vaccine development?
• Do you think this news article will have an impact on your life in any way? What action might you take in response to it?
• What do you want to know more about? What questions does this article leave you with?
In addition to posting your article, please respond to one other student’s post. In your response, please reflect on, extend, elaborate on or react to your classmate’s post in a well-organized paragraph.
• Some things you could address: Do you think this article gives an accurate representation of fact? Is it
