Scope of practice

1. Refer to 60-16-102 of the Kansas PN scope of practice.

(c) A licensed practice nurse shall not perform any of the following:

(1) Administer any of the following by intravenous route:

(C) anesthetics, antianxiety agents, biological therapy, serums, hemostatic, immunosuppressants, muscle relaxants, human plasma fractions, oxytocic’s, sedatives, tocolytics, thrombolytics, anticonvulsants, cardiovascular preparations, antineoplastics agents, hematopoietic, autonomic drugs, and respiratory stimulants

Give at least 2 examples of intravenous agents in each of the above listed (there are 18 listed- you will list 36 intravenous agents total)

1. Review the various types of infusion therapies and discuss the selection criteria for each of their use. Infusion therapies include isotonic, hypotonic, hypertonic, and colloids. Discuss an example of when you would and when you would not use each therapy and why.
