The blood cancer experiment was where 20 patients died due to the financial interests of the doctors in the drugs that they were testing and not the fact that there were better and much safer options for the patients to utilize. This agenda was a clear violation of the belmont report. They did not inform the patient, held financial bias that paved the path leading to certain measures of data that were their own choosing, and did not utilize other good clinical practices where they did not have the patient best interest in mind, assessed the risks and benefits. They utilized the patients for the sake of the experiments and the drugs that they wanted to succeed leading to the passing of the 20 people. All for the sake of money and like I specified before, to maintain the financial interests of the scientists leading the experiments. The lessons that the world has learned from these issues would be that to consistently question the system and try to take it apart to find the inefficiencies. This system that has led to inconsistent, lax standards – and, sometimes, patients dying in questionable experiments. There is a fear of the big pharma companies that that have major resources and that will influence the experiments like the trials have been above. Many of the reforms being proposed nationally focus on educating and certifying anyone involved in research and on accreditation for research centers. There’s also a push to reduce paperwork. There is a huge portion of human research that falls to the huge resources that pharmaceutical companies and it is important that the science of not lost to bias to pander to these companies and ruin the science of clinical research.
