Aboriginal culture and prevailing issues affecting the community

Based on the information you gathered on aboriginal culture and prevailing issues affecting the community and their engagement with community services and health systems, you must plan a service or program with and for them.

The service or program you plan should be relevant to their cultural practices or be a part of implementing a health promotional service or program. Some suggestions include:

• Celebrating NAIDOC week • Arranging for National Sorry Day events in the community

• A suicide prevention campaign • Health education on substance abuse etcetera. The project report for this task must address the following questions/criteria:

• What is the service or program you are planning to implement with/for this community?

• Identify and briefly describe an Aboriginal community organisation in your region through which you could implement the service or program you are planning.

• How would you establish effective partnerships with the staff at the Aboriginal community organisation in relation to implementing the service or program?

• How would you establish effective partnerships with the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities in relation to implementing the service or program?

• Identify and briefly describe two (2) resources you could access and use to promote partnerships between staff, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities.

• Provide an example for each resource and indicate how you would utilise these resources in the context of the service or program.

• Plan and document different ways (minimum three) to support the implementation of a culturally safe service or program to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in your region.

• Plan and document different ways (minimum three) to encourage increased participation of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in your region in the service provision or program.

You must include in your response how you would integrate strategies that would encourage selfdetermination and community control among the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the implementation of the program.

Sedative-hypnotic drug
