Hormones travel through the bloodstream to target cells or organs, where they elicit specific responses by binding to receptors on the cell surface or within the cell. For instance, insulin, produced by the pancreas, regulates blood glucose levels by promoting the uptake of glucose into cells for energy production or storage. Similarly, the thyroid gland secretes hormones that regulate metabolism and energy expenditure. Additionally, hormones produced by the pituitary gland, such as growth hormone, influence growth and development throughout the body.
