  1. Develop a Personal Stress Management Plan.
The first part of this assessment activity requires you to develop a Personal Stress Management Plan using the Personal Stress Management Template provided and following the instructions included in this template.

  1. Implement the Personal Stress Management Plan.
Now that you have developed your Personal Stress Management Plan, you are required to implement it.

This involves using strategies that you have identified in your plan to manage at least two stressful situations in the workplace that involve your work colleagues and/or clients.

You can choose any two situations and you will use the Implementation section of your Personal Stress Management Plan to document the details of the stressful situations and the strategies you used to manage these.

Complete Section 2 of the Template only. Your assessor will advise you of the timing for submission, as well as where to complete the assessment.

  1. Evaluate stress reducing strategies.
Once you have developed your Personal Stress Management Plan and had the opportunity to implement stress management strategies, you are required to evaluate it.

Complete the Section 3 of the Template section of your Personal Stress Management Plan only after you have had time to implement your plan.

Completing the evaluation section will require you to describe the effectiveness of the stress management strategies you used and to make adjustments as required. It also requires you to access additional support. Your assessor will advise you of the timing for submission, as well as where to complete the assessment.

Cancer

A patient suffering from cancer is scheduled for surgery in the morning.

While instructing the patient not to eat or drink after a certain hour, you realize that the patient is unaware of the risks involved in having the surgery and of those involved in not having the surgery. In talking further, you see clearly that the option of not having surgery was never presented and that the patient has only a vague idea of what the surgery will entail. She also appears to be unaware of her diagnosis. The patient has signed the informed consent. Should you proceed in preparing the patient for surgery?

1. What are the obligations of nurses in example such as this?
2. To what extent must nurses pursue questioning when, in their view, the patient’s right of self-determination is being violated? Unless we are willing to say that a patient upon entering a hospital surrenders the right of self-determination, it seems clear that the physician orders, explicit and implied, should be questioned in all of the above examples.

  • What content needs to be reinforced based on feedback from ATI RN Predictor or any other test question practice?

  • Time spent or how much weekly time is/will be blocked off & used (suggest: 10-20 hrs per/week). You will need to view this as a part-time job!

What sources of knowledge influenced/or should influence your thinking? How has your past experiences help you make sense of current plan?

  • Identify areas of concerns – create map/plan for further study. What areas will or have you adjusted or change over these weeks? What are your next steps going forward?

  • Overall, describe how this plan will help achieve your goal for NCLEX preparation.
